2019 Assembly

The Discalced Carmelite friars held their annual assembly of the Province of St. Thérèse in San Antonio June 3-7. With the help of their strategic planning consultant, Fr. Al Bradley, the group continued a process begun two years ago to restructure the Province. Under the direction of the General of the Order, they have reviewed the Constitution that governs their religious life and considered anew how they are called to live their contemplative charism in today’s world.  Their planning includes preparation for the future, including elder care and property management.

Over the coming months, the group of 15 friars will make decisions concerning their current ministries and activities in five communities—San Antonio, two in Dallas, Little Rock, and Oklahoma City. An assessment will be conducted on their use of space in their facilities, with the goal of more effectively and efficiently managing and consolidating their properties and assets to best serve their mission and financial needs.
